What are the school hours?

The school day begins at 7:45 a.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. for all K-5 students. Tuesday dismissal is at 11:25 a.m. Since school personnel are not available to supervise, children may not arrive at the building until 7:30 a.m.

Do you serve breakfast?

Breakfast is available every morning immediately before school starts at all schools in Quincy. Breakfast consists of a selection of cereals, muffins, bagels, peanut butter, cream cheese, fresh fruit, fruit juice and milk. 7:30-7:45a.m.

What does breakfast cost?

The cost for breakfast is $1.00 at elementary schools. Students who are eligible for Free or Reduced price lunches are automatically eligible for free or reduced price breakfast. The cost for a reduced price breakfast is 40 cents.

How much does lunch cost?

Elementary full-price student lunch is $2.00. The cost for a reduced price lunch is 40 cents. Milkis served with all lunches. The cost of purchasing milk only is 40 cents and milk choices include 2%, 1%, and 1% chocolate. Some lunches also include fruit juices in addition to the milk.

What is the homework policy?

The homework policy for each grade level is clearly listed in the Student's Rights and Responsibility handbook which goes home each year. This document, along with many other useful forms and notices, is also available on the QPS web site. Click on QPS Info, then choose Notices, Policies, and Forms. The document is in the District folder.

Are after school programs available?

After school programs are offered to students on some afternoons from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Staff members plan, organize and notify parents of current opportunities from which to choose. Participants are selected on a space available basis by lottery.

Is day care available for children after school?

Quincy After School Child Care (QCARE) provides enriching, licensed care each weekday from the time that the final bell rings until 5:30pm. Participants can enroll for the program for each afternoon or as little as two afternoons per week. The program is not operated by QPS. Therefore, you must call the QCARE main office at 617-773-3299 to speak with a Program Director to register or visit their website for more information including tuition fees and registration information at www.quincyafterschool.org

What is the curriculum that is taught?

The Merrymount School utilizes the Massachusetts' Curriculum Frameworks and Quincy's Design for Learning to develop academic goals and creative instructional strategies that are responsive to the individual needs of students.

How is the curriculum applied in the classroom?

Our teachers utilize an inquiry-based, approach to learning. This approach emphasizes hands-on experiential instructional strategies that assist children in the problem-solving process. Our ultimate aim is to have children apply these problem-solving skills, not only in the classroom, but also in their daily lives.
